M.C. Records Signs The Band Shout Sister Shout   Doc.
M.C. Records Signs The Band Shout Sister Shout
New Band Brings Together Rachel Davis & Steppin’ In It
Hit That Jive Streets on April 7

Northport N.Y. - M.C. Records is proud to announcing the signing of the band
Shout Sister Shout. Shout is comprised of 30 somethings Rachel Davis on lead vocals with the band Steppin’ In It providing the musical backing. Shout Sister Shout focuses on old-time American Jazz featuring torch swing numbers alongside bluesy ballads. Look for the release, Hit That Jive on April 7, 2009. The release will have two bonus tracks and a MPEG video.

You can check out a preview of the CD at www.myspace.com/shoutsistershout.

After playing concerts as a double bill, Rachael Davis and the boys from Steppin’ In It found a common love for Jazz music of the 1930’s and ‘40’s. The summer of 2006 found the two acts working at the same festivals, which led to joining each other for a classic tune by Nat King Cole or Billie Holiday during their respective sets. By mid summer, the quintet was dubbed ‘Shout Sister Shout’ and an album was in the works.

Rachel Davis – Vocals Dominic John Suchyta - Bass
Joe Wilson – Steel Guitar, Trombone, Vocals Josh Davis – Guitar & Vocals
Andy Wilson – Harmonica, Trumpet & Flugelhorn

“The quintet is a tribute to the smoky, sophisticated sound of 1930s and '40s jazz, with plenty of influence from Cole Porter, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Nat King Cole Trio and Sarah Vaughan, and it's a trip to hear Davis channel those old greats. Of course, it doesn't hurt to have a bunch of guys playing the hell out of vintage instruments as backup.” The Metro Times- Detroit,MI

BEN TAYLOR   Doc.
Taylor’s song “Wicked Way” chosen as iTunes’ 2008’s #2 track for 2008!

Benjamin Taylor will be touring North America this winter, bringing his eclectic brand of “Kung Folk” to audiences across North America. Taylor’s acclaimed recent release, The Legend of Kung Folk (Iris Records) reveals the humor, wit and skill of a singer-songwriter who’s comfortable in both his own skin and with his musical legacy. Guests include Morcheeba vocalist Skye Edwards, UK artist Jamie Cullum and more.
Taylor’s songs range from a sonically spacious acoustic piano/vocal duet with Cullum, “After It’s Over,” to the enormous stacked background vocals on “She’s Gone,” to the tongue-in-cheek sexuality of “Wicked Way,” ironically sung from a woman’s point of view, and the uplifting “You’re The One For Me.” Check out a live version of “Wicked Way,” just selected as iTunes #2 folk track for 2008, here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zmBHYmQ45eM

Bob Mould Readies New Album   Doc.
Bob Mould Readies New Album Life and Times for April 7 Release - 20 Years After His First Lauded Solo Album Workbook,
30 Years Since the Formation of Husker Du

Tour Dates Announced for February, March and April

Bob Mould is arguably one of the most influential musicians of the alternative rock era, first for his early work with post-punk rabble-rousers Husker Du, followed by the college-rock-defining pop of Sugar and finally for his solo albums, notably his first, Workbook, which quieted Mould’s previous ire to reveal his fine songwriting in a new light and allowed an introspective glimpse into the inner workings of an evolving artist.

2009 marks the 20th anniversary of the release of Workbook, and also the release of Bob Mould’s latest solo work, Life and Times, set for an April 7th street date. Produced and mixed by Mould in his new hometown of Washington D.C, the album is filled with Mould’s experiences in relation to friends, lovers, the world at large and himself. It is honest and personal, his voice breaking on “Bad Blood Better,” the electronic twitches of earlier work reappearing under signature blazing guitars on”MM17.” Mould appraises the perils of easy self-distraction on “Wasted World” and is not afraid to get explicit on “Argos.” The emotional and musical centerpiece of the record, “I’m Sorry Baby, But You Can’t Stand In My Light Anymore,” is an unflinching look at the sorrow and regret that comes at the end of love.

A follow up to 2008’s District Line, which Stephen Thomas Erlewine at All Music Guide called “a consolidation of Mould's considerable strengths, an album that showcases his gifts as a writer and record-maker, one that touches upon almost every phase of his career, yet it's filtered through a maturity that feels vital because of its unadorned honesty,” Bob Mould’s new release highlights an artist completing a circle decades in the making, his talent undiminished, his perspective revitalized.

UK's Biggest Metalcore Band Return To The US   Doc.
UK's Biggest Metalcore Band Return To The US With A New Video And Rockstar Taste Of Chaos Tour
The hottest metalcore band this side of the Thames, Bring Me The Horizon, have released a mutinous new video for their latest single, "Chelsea Smiles," from their critically heralded new album, Suicide Season. The video captures the band's larger-than-life personalities and outrageous antics perfectly in an insane house party that highlights the band's three favorite things -- booze, girls and maniacal music. Sheer pandemonium ensues.
Watch "Chelsea Smiles" on Myspace.
"Chelsea Smiles" begins with singer Oli Sykes' scream, "I've got a secret, it's on the tip of my tongue, it's on the back of my lungs, and I'm, gonna keep it, I know something you don't know." While we may never know what that is, what isn't a secret is that Bring Me The Horizon are one of the hottest new bands to arrive in the US in a long time. Definitely not for the faint of heart, the band's latest album, Suicide Season, is a deafening cocktail of blistering metallic riffs entwined gunfire drums and Sykes' commanding vocals.
In support of "Chelsea Smiles" and Suicide Season, Bring Me The Horizon will cross the pond to rain down destruction on the US with a main supporting slot on the Rockstar Taste Of Chaos Tour, which features Epitaph labelmates Thursday as the headliner.
Bring Me The Horizon are currently clawing out of the underground and into your kid's bedrooms, and it's too late to do anything about it. So join the party this Feb/March as the band storms your town on the Rockstar Taste of Chaos Tour

“Something” Video Premiere on MTVU.com

“Something” is an epic rock anthem featured on the band’s new album, This War Is Ours, which Alternative Press called “a ticking time bomb of punk-rock attitude meeting real-life angst…that would make even the harshest of critics smile."

Escape the Fate’s rise to the top has not been an easy one, including the essential rock elements of drugs, fights, and breakups, but they’ve weathered and transcended the drama to emerge as one of rock’s most buzzed about bands. Escape The Fate’s phenomenal online presence alone (over 31million Myspace plays) has catapulted the group to mainstage player status.

In support of “Something” and This War Is Ours, Escape The Fate will embark on a six week headlining US tour with Black Tide, Attack Attack, William Control (Aiden) and Burn Halo, which kicks off at the Glass House in Pomona, California. Tickets are on sale now.

SAMANTHA CRAIN   Doc.
  SAMANTHA CRAIN
Songs in the Night
Debut full-length on Ramseur Records out April 28, 2009

With her debut full-length, Songs in the Night, Samantha Crain and the Midnight Shivers deliver a shudderingly beautiful unique batch of songs in a style that’s been described as “meshing freak folk with a deep-seated, dust-bowel soul.” The 22-year-old Shawnee, OK native’s haunting voice, well-chosen words and emotional depth ring true in a way that sets her apart from most artists of her generation. Picking up where her critically acclaimed 2008 Ramseur Records EP, The Confiscation, leaves off, we find Crain presenting each song with an unfeigned fervor as her voice rises and falls over the panorama painted by the Midnight Shivers and their roots-infused, fertile arrangements.

Songs In the Night plays out to wander confidently in the badlands where abrasive, jangly indie rock and smooth, whispery folk meet. Along with her band the Midnight Shivers (Jacob Edwards, Andrew Tanz and Stephen Sebastian), Crain recorded all 11 tracks in five days at Asheville, NC’s Echo Mountain Studios with producer Danny Kadar (Grizzly Bear, My Morning Jacket, The Avett Brothers), and the album captures the organic, rural feel of the sessions. Songs in the Night chronicles the fear Crain saw in herself and those around her who assumed that embracing health and clarity would, in turn, destroy every particle of poetry and each grain of ingenuity dwelling within them as artists.
In these songs, Crain finds inspiration to be found beyond the crutches of anxiety and self-contempt. For her, a soul removed from a dim and murky den is a breeding-ground for vision and artistry, set to realize its full potential. Songs In the Night is Crain’s account of this excavation. As the album unfolds, listeners can rest easy knowing they are not experiencing illusions and the band can be comforted with the reassurance that they delivered something that is genuine.

Labelmates VANNA and OUR LAST NIGHT Set to Tour in New Year   Doc.
Labelmates VANNA and OUR LAST NIGHT Set to Tour in New Year

New England Post-Hardcore Groups to Spend Jan/Feb in Eastern US

Maybe it’s the long winters or the historic bitterness surrounding their sports franchises, but New England definitely breeds some of the most interesting and agressive bands in the scene today. Case in point? Vanna and Our Last Night, who are going to be raising Cain together across the eastern US beginning on January 14th in Avondale PA.

Relative newcomers, Our Last Night raised the bar in March of this year with their Epitaph debut The Ghosts Among Us. Drawing a comparison to Underoath, AMP magazine wrote “these guys are better at it than most. Solid vocal and guitar harmonies can be found throughout The Ghosts Among Us” and NOW enthused “Our Last Night definitely have what it takes to succeed in the oversaturated world of emo-meets-hardcore; their debut disc is full of infectious, melodic hooks and throat-busting growls.” Our Last Night is on tour for the rest of the year with bands such as Saosin and Fight Fair.

Vanna have just completed their second full-length album with producer Steve Evetts (Every Time I Die, Story of the Year). Entitled A New Hope, the album is set for release in spring of ’09. Guitar Messenger caught up with Vanna at a recent show and raved, “Vanna came crashing into Harper’s Ferry, destroying every eardrum within reach, and inciting bloodthirsty fans to mangle their bodies in the inevitable pit. Front man Chris Preece delivered monster vocals, living up to everything on the studio album. The band’s stage presence matched the aggression of their fans.” The end of 2008 will find Vanna doing a handful of shows with Ohio metalcore act Settle the Sky.
